The tree of the knowledge of good and evil grows anew in this world, rising from its roots within the souls of every man, woman, and child in whose stomach lies a single one of its undigested seeds. Humanity is the new tree, and humans are its fruit. It is by the humanity in you that you perceive the forms of good and evil, and by the vision in you that humanity fulfills the cosmic purpose of that which it devoured. The tree of eternal life grows from common roots; only by grafting the new tree onto the roots of life could humanity survive its violent origin. The branch which is cut off will die- and the branch which is joined with its roots is joined with the whole tree. If we had had both life eternal and the knowledge of good and evil, we would have been like gods. And Jesus is the root of the new tree of eternal life; in him mankind has both. We will be like gods.
